For many years the Israelites worked for Pharaoh making temples and other buildings that Pharaoh or the Egyptians decided to make. They were not allowed to worship Yahweh or keep His commanded Feast Days. The Israelites continued to pray and cry out to Yahweh for deliverance from working for the Egyptians.
Yahweh appointed a man named Moses to go before Pharaoh and demand that the Israelites be let go that they may keep Yahweh’s appointed feast days. Moses was afraid of going because of his speech was not good. The bible says “Then Moses said to Yahweh, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since you have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue." Exodus 4:10 Yahweh told Moses to take Aaron with him to speak for him.
When Moses went before Pharaoh, Yahweh hardened the Pharaoh’s heart and he did not allow the Israelites to go. Yahweh sent plagues on the Egyptians and each time the Pharaoh did not let the Israelites go. (1) First the water was turned to blood, (2) then frogs were brought out of the seas and covered the land of Egypt. Pharaoh called Moses before him and told him to ask Yahweh to remove the frogs from Egypt and he will let His people go. Then Moses was commanded to strike the ground so that it became (3) lice throughout the land. Pharaoh still refused to let the Israelites go. (4) Flies were then brought on the land of Egypt and destroyed the land of Egypt. Pharaoh called Moses before him and told him to go and sacrifice to Yahweh in the land. Moses told Pharaoh that they would go into the wilderness on a three day journey to sacrifice to Yahweh and not on Egyptian land. Pharaoh still refused to let the people go, (5) and Yahweh killed all the cattle of the Egyptians and spared the Israelites cattle.
Moses was then commanded to bring forth ashes from the furnace and scattered them toward heaven, which caused (6) boils (sores) on the magicians and the Egyptians. Pharaoh heart was still hardened so Yahweh brought (7) hail and thunder over the land of Egypt. Pharaoh brought Moses before him and said “I have sinned this time. Yahweh is righteous, and my people and I are wicked.” Exodus 9:27
Pharaoh asked that the hail be removed from Egypt and he would le the Israelites go. As soon as the hail stopped, Pharaoh once again hardened his heart and refused to let the people go. Yahweh then brought (8) locusts on all the land. Once again Pharaoh repented but then refused to let the people go, this time Yahweh brought (9) darkness on all the land for three days.
The last plague that Yahweh brought on the land of Egypt was to kill all the firstborn of the Egyptians. Yahweh commanded that the Israelites were to take a lamb for every household, keep it until the fourteenth day and kill it in the evening. They were to take the blood on put it on the doorposts of their houses where they were to eat the lamb. Nothing was to be left until morning.
Yahweh told Moses that they were to eat in haste and be ready to leave. The blood on the doorposts was a token (sign) to Yahweh to pass over the house. When the death angel passed over the land of Egypt and killed all the firstborn of the Egyptians, the Israelites who had blood on their doorposts would be spared.
After this last plague, Pharaoh finally let the Israelites go. They left to quickly from the land of Egypt that there was not enough time to let their bread rise.
Yahweh commanded Israel that this was to be a service to Him for generations to come and a memorial of His deliverance out of Egypt. Puzzles | Lessons | Stories | Coloring | Crafts | From You | Home | Quizzes |
